The Department of Health and Human Services had announced the removal of the X-waiver requirement increasing access to treatment for Opioid Use Disorder. Buprenorphine is a medication prescribed to treat in Medication Assisted Treatment(MAT), a gold standard for treating Opioid Use Disorder.
The Biden administration reversed this move. The requirement of extra training to prescribe Buprenorphine means less physicians and thus less patients can utilize the prescription to treat Opioid Use Disorder.
