The Sacramento County Opioid Coalition's mission is to save lives by reducing opioid misuse, overdose, and stigma through community collaboration.
Each year, Sacramento County suffers more than 200 overdose deaths and 2,000 emergency room visits due to opioids, particularly from fentanyl-laced substances. The Coalition provides a variety of resources to community members of the greater Sacramento region. Through community events, partnering with local nonprofit organizations, providing free resources and supporting recovery centers, the Coalition aims to reduce the amount of opioid overdose deaths and help those with opioid use disorder get the support they need.
The Coalition holds quarterly meetings to discuss current and future projects and provide updates to the community. These meetings also provide the opportunity for members to hear directly from experts in the field of substance use treatment and prevention, while providing a supportive space for guest speakers to share personal stories of lived experience. The coalition also sends out newsletters to announce upcoming events hosted by us or the community.
The Opioid Coalition provides both on-site and virtual trainings to recognize an opioid overdose, identify opioid and fentanyl exposure, and administer Naloxone. With help from the Naloxone Distribution Project, the Coalition also provides Naloxone kits for FREE at community events, to trainees, and to anyone in the greater Sacramento region upon request.
